Why mini mcguinness matters

I want to start with the main influence and main event in Mini's life that made Mini the way she is. Her Mom became pregnant with Mini on accident when she was seeing Mini's biological father Gregory. Her father is an immature young man who lives his life by not having many attachments. Traveling the world and chasing the glitz and glamour of everything. He wants to be cool and he wants to be powerful. His ambition and inability to think about someone other than himself makes him an absentee Dad.

Mini's mother who loves Mini completely also adds on some complications for her daughter. Though Shelly McGuinness is a fiery woman who would protect Mini from anything she is also a victim of her experiences. She often tells Mini that men are only after one thing sex and once they get it they leave. She also parades around different guys which really gets on Mini's nerves. Shelly especially in the novel is portrayed as someone who tries to be young and live through Mini many times.

This creates quite a bit of tension between these two Scottlish ladies and also complicates how Mini views sexual relationships with boys. When we meet Mini she is seems like a defensive mean girl who has absolutely no regard for anyone's feelings. She is completely awful to Franky and she also seems to boss around her friends carelessly. However as the Series progresses we see that most of what Mini does is out of fear. She is afraid she is losing her friends so she becomes super mean to Franky this new comer who seems to get the attention of Grace in particular.

She is afraid of losing her boyfriend so she lies about her virginity and several other things to keep him. She rations her food and watches her weight like a hawk due to body image issues.

She is constantly trying to keep control of every aspect of her life. When things get out of control she acts out in a mean way as a way to save face. She has major abandonment issues due to her father's absence. She is constantly afraid of people leaving her and afraid of being hurt. Most of what she does and how she behaves is dictated by her fear of abandonment and her need for control. She then gets betrayed by both her bestfriend Liv and her boyfriend Nick when they start sleeping with one another.

This story line in Mini's mind shows that her Mom is right about men. They only want sex. At the same time though Mini wants that picture perfect life and she is afraid to lose people. So she continues dating Nick despite knowing that Nick slept with Liv. Until she can no longer keep up the facade of having everything. Towards the end of Series 5 we see Mini start to have an affection toward Franky. Some people believe that the connection they have is sexual, others think friendship, and some think somewhere in between.

No matter where you fall on this debate everyone does agree that Franky became something important to Mini. Mini accepts Franky and sees something in Franky that she wants to protect. Mini is an extremely protective person. She will be there to beat on and kill anyone who messes with her people. She is also stubborn and stuck in her ways not willing to compromise on anything.

Anyway, if you listen to any track off this, make it "I Hate The Way". It is so perfect I don't know what to do with myself. Just look at those lyrics. Don't like it? Don't listen. The song fits so sue me.

As the series progresses, she develops a closer friendship with Franky, eventually starting to become a mother figure to her.

Prior to the start of the sixth series, Dakota Blue Richards Franky hinted about the possibility of a Franky and Mini romance. In the latter part of the sixth series, Mavor pointed out that Franky's possessiveness of Mini was due to her becoming a nurturing and motherly figure to her. In the sixth series, Mini has become an integral part of the group, fixing her relationships with Nick, Liv, and Grace, and becoming a mother-figure to Franky.

She also begins a secret sexual relationship with Alo Creevey whom she affectionately nicknames "Farmboy". In "Franky", Mini, the queen bee of her group, is the first to call out Franky on her androgynous style of dress. Mini eventually clashes with Franky, caused by a violent field hockey game. However, Mini, seeking a new start, pushes them aside and join her with her two friends, Grace and Liv. They invite her into their group, proceed to take MDMA and go shopping.

However, Mini starts to antagonize Franky, who rejects her materialistic outlook on life, and looks to steal Grace and Liv away. After finding out the reason why Franky left Oxford to move to Bristol which was due to her being severely bullied , Mini persuades boyfriend Nick to post embarrassing photos of Franky around the college, which leads to Mini and Franky falling out.

Later, Franky confronts Mini at her party that she had previously invited Franky to before casting her out and Mini reveals that Franky was only invited as a joke, which Grace and Liv knew about. After Franky leaves in tears, Liv confronts her, telling her that she needs to be more mature, as they aren't in year 11 anymore.

She then asks Liv where Grace went, not knowing that Grace, having liked Franky from the start, had left the party to hang out with her and make amends. In "Rich", she is seen briefly with Liv, crashing Grace's ballet practice, where she pretends to have no problem with Grace hanging out with Alo, Rich, and Franky, although she later calls them nasty names. In "Mini", Mini has been arranging a charity fashion show with her school committee, but is outraged to discover that her friend, Grace, has recruited Franky to help with the clothing designs.

Out of pride, she decides to handle it herself with her boyfriend, Nick Levan. Nick, meanwhile, is hoping to consummate their 3-month relationship. Unbeknownst to Nick, Mini is still a virgin, but is too afraid to admit it, and is scared of losing it. She attempts to put off having sex for several days, until she and her best friend, Liv go on a double date with Nick and his friend, Rider at the Bowling Alley.

To put off having sex further, she hides Nick's keys in her handbag but Rider suggests they go back to his place. There Rider and Liv start to have sex, and Nick pressures Mini to do the same. However, due to some medication she intentionally took earlier, she winds up vomiting on him before they can have sex, forcing him and Liv to take Mini home and stay the night. The next day, Mini wakes up and sees Liv and Nick sleeping next to each other and misunderstands the situation.

During the day, she discovers that the students know about her vomiting incident also with Grace and Franky and their group mocking her because of it and believes that it was Liv who spread the story. She then attempts to call Liv about the fashion show, and, upon finding Nick's phone in the changing room, she discovers three calls had been placed to it from Liv, and then sees her dancing with Nick outside.

Fearing the worst, she confronts Liv and discovers that the costumes don't fit her or the other models and that there are not enough and the routines are still yet to be choreographed. Overwhelmed with pressure, she faints, and is informed that she can no longer produce the show, and is sent home.

Mini, realising that she cannot put off having sex with Nick at the risk of losing him, dresses herself up and returns and discovers that Grace and Franky's designs have been used, to a standing ovation. Later, at a rave, Mini confronts Liv about her apparent attraction to Nick accusing her of being jealous of her and has a fight with her and Grace, before storming out and crying. Franky, feeling pity, approaches and talks her into returning. As they return, Mini sees Nick and Liv leaving a small janitor's closet re-dressing themselves and realises they just had sex.

Mini then entices Nick to go home with her, and finally loses her virginity to him. The next day, she finds Nick had gone to practice, and sadly returns home.

Mini, enraged, later forces Liv to drink an entire bottle of vodka as a means of apology after hearing she had done the same thing with Matty before leaving her to suffer. Nick, enraged and drunk, violently punches Rider in the face and in an ensuing confrontation with Mini, she reveals angrily that she had known all along that he had been cheating on her, and finally breaks up with him.

And it is Mini who finally talks Franky into revealing her sexuality which is Pansexual. Later on, while standing in for Liv who had quit , Mini hesitantly kisses Franky at the suggestion of Grace, much to the shock of Rich and Alo. In "Everyone", Mini has become very protective of Franky after witnessing her confrontation with Liv and Matty at the end of the production of Twelfth Night.

Mini, however, continues to worry about what will happen, as she has a sense that something bad is going to happen. Eventually, she deserts Alo and Nick and leaves to find the three herself. She runs into Liv, who has been separated from Matty and Franky, and reveals her fears of losing Franky, causing Liv to ask if Mini has a crush on Franky, which she does not deny.

The two finally reconcile. After seeing Franky run past, having a panic attack, Mini stops Matty and realises they have attempted to have sex. Franky accidentally trips up and falls over the side of a cliff.
